Product Swap

I am excited to have linked up with Samantha over at Ms. Smarty Pants for a product swap.
The product that I had the pleasure of using was created by the amazing Karla over at Life in Special Education (her blog) One Room Schoolhouse (her TPT store)  It is a literacy work station called Picnic Snatch that has students working on ir, ar, ur, or, and er.
This 2 player game is player similar to 'Bump". To play the game each pair of players needs a gameboard, dice (included) and each player needs 5 tokens. Player 1 rolls both die, reads a word with the same vowel sound, and covers a corresponding place on the game board. If the place is already taken, the player can "snatch' it from their opponent and put their token on the place. Play passes to the next player. If a player is unable to cover a space, play passes to the next player. If a space already has the player's token on it, he can lock it, by placing another of his tokens on it on another turn. Players can only place one token on the game board per turn. The player who places all of their tokens in the gameboard first is the winner.

Here's a peek at the gameboard (and die) while I was introducing it to my kiddos.  (I picked up the ladybugs at the dollar store last spring along with some bees and they are PERFECT!)
So, I left my kiddos alone to go do some guided reading and when I returned they had finished the game and created a new version.

At first I was thinking "You're playing wrong!" but after I watched them for a minute I thought "How creative".  They had each grabbed a gameboard and were playing it like BINGO.  Since they were still getting the intended practice and were on task I let them go with it!

You can find this activity at Karla's TPT store.  She has very generously agreed to let me give away a copy of her unit!  I'll keep the Rafflecopter open until next weekend.  Good luck!!!

I love hearing what other people have to say about my products and to hear their opinions of other products.  If you do too, check out some of the other bloggers who have linked up.
